Client goals
Hillary and David Craig had already cultivated a beautiful, thriving garden — a true haven for wildlife with abundant plantings and a deep understanding of their local ecosystem. As passionate plant lovers and longtime Asheville residents, they were knowledgeable stewards of their land who wanted to enhance what they'd already built.
Their vision was to take their existing sanctuary to the next level: a natural, meandering pathway to walk with their dog and children — something organic and inviting, not overly manicured. Despite recent hurricane damage, they saw opportunity to thoughtfully expand with native plantings and trees that feed animals through every season.

Our approach
We designed a food forest integrated with a meandering pathway — an immersive experience where the family can walk among carefully selected native plantings while observing wildlife. Working collaboratively with clients who truly understood the local ecosystem, we chose additions that would thrive alongside their existing garden. Over time, they'll pick fresh blueberries along the path and watch butterflies flourish through the seasons. The result is a harmonious enhancement that deepens the family's daily connection with their land and the biodiversity of their already-thriving sanctuary.
