Landscape design, hardscaping, outdoor living, drainage, low-maintenance landscapes, and water features for residential and commercial properties across Asheville, Buncombe County, and the Western North Carolina mountains — designed to work together and to last.

Natural Scapes offers a wide array of custom and unique stonework, focused on beautiful displays that blend almost seamlessly into the surrounding natural elements. Most of our hardscaping work in Asheville starts with the slope — walls, walkways, and patios that hold a mountain lot in place while they look like they grew there.

Custom designs build your outdoor living space to your specifications, from a year-round outdoor kitchen to a stone fire pit that keeps everyone warm through the cold months.

Whether it's erosion from a steep bank or damage from a strong storm, we solve everyday water-drainage issues with non-invasive, sustainable solutions.

Low-maintenance landscapes have been our staple since 1997. Using heavy mulching, targeted planting, and draining paths, we design landscapes that are more self-sufficient and less labor-intensive, working with nature, not against it.

Custom water features, fountains, bogs, and ponds for residential and commercial properties. Arranged with aquatic plants, stone, and driftwood, a flowing feature lends tranquility, and can even enable a new ecosystem on your land.
We couldn't be happier with the work. They made our property more functional and beautiful.
Good to know
Hardscaping is the stone and structural half of a landscape, and it is a core part of what we build. That covers patios and adjoining walkways in brick, paver, and natural stone, retaining walls, stone stairways, fire pits, natural-stone outdoor kitchens and fireplaces, wood decks and stairs, and structures like gazebos and arbors. On Western North Carolina lots most of that work starts with grading and drainage rather than stone, because a patio has to be level on ground that is not, and a wall only lasts if the water behind it has somewhere to go. Our guides to choosing a retaining wall and flagstone vs. pavers for a patio walk through how we make those calls.
Yes. We design and build for residential and commercial properties across Asheville, Buncombe County, and the surrounding mountains, and the services on this page apply to both: stonework and hardscaping, drainage and erosion control, planting design, water features, and outdoor living space. The difference on a commercial site is usually scale, access, and how the space gets used day to day, so we plan the sequencing and the maintenance load around that from the start.
Both, and they are not separate engagements. We start with a consultation where we walk your property and talk through how you actually want to use the space, design around your site's realities (sun, slope, soil, and water), then build it, handling grading, hardscape, and planting in the right order. Because the same company designs and builds, the plan on paper stays connected to the crew making it real, and nothing gets value-engineered out of it behind your back.
We are based in West Asheville and work throughout Asheville, West Asheville, Weaverville, Buncombe County, and the surrounding Western North Carolina mountains. You can see the range in our completed projects, which run from in-town Asheville lots to steeper properties up in Weaverville.
